Mr. Antonio Brufau was born on March 12, 1948, in Mollerussa (Lleida), Spain. He received Honorary Doctorate from the University Ramon Llull of Barcelona (October 2011) and is a graduate of Economics from the University of Barcelona.
Mr. Brufau began his professional career at Arthur Andersen, where he was made Partner and Head of Audit Division. In 1988 he joined La Caixa as Assistant General Manager. Between 1999 and 2004 he held the position of Managing Director of La Caixa Group.
In July 1997 he was appointed Chairman of Gas Natural Group. He held the position of Vice President of Gas Natural Fenosa Group until May 2014 and at present is Vice President of the Board. From 1996 and until he was named Repsol YPF’s Chairman and CEO in October 2004, he was a member of the Company’s Board of Directors. Presently, he is Chairman of Repsol and Chairman of Repsol Foundation.
During his long professional career, Mr. Brufau has been part of several Boards of Directors, amongst them Enagas, Abertis, Aguas de Barcelona, Colonial and Caixa Holding, as well as CaixaBank France. He has been Chairman of Barcelona’s Círculo de Economía from 2002 until 2005, and member of the Executive Board of the International Chamber of Commerce (ICC) from 2003 to 2005, as well as Member of the Board and Member of the Auditing Committee of Suez until 2006. In June 2008 he was appointed Chairman of Club Español de la Energia (ENERCLUB) until June 2010. In March 2011 he was appointed Chairman of the inter-institutional consortium GLOBALleida.
